Called to proclaim the good news in Hackney Marsh

David Silvester was born in Plaistow in 1959 and grew up in East London.
Having attended Sunday School as a child, David came to faith as a teenager, being confirmed in 1975 which was an important moment in his life.
On leaving school he studied Economics at QMC, London and following graduation he worked for the Education Department in the London Borough of Newham for two years before moving on to Lincoln Theological College to train for ordination in 1982.
He was ordained in 1985 and served his title at St Mary’s Church, Walthamstow.  Following this David has served in three parishes: as Team Vicar in the Barking Team Ministry (1990-1996), as Vicar of St Jude and St Paul’s, Islington (1996-2008) and moved to Hackney Marsh to become Team Rector in February 2008.  He was also Area Dean of Islington (2003-2008) and has recently been appointed Deputy Area Dean of Hackney.
David married Val in July 1993. They have no children of their own but Val has two children, Tim (33) and Mandy (31) from a previous marriage and a grandson, Jamie (12).
David has continued a particular interest in schools and has served as governor in four schools;  Thames View Infant and Junior School (1991-1996), St Jude and St Paul’s CE School (1996-2008, as Chair of Governors 1997-2007), Newington Green Primary School (1998-2007) and St Matthias CE School (2008 onwards).
David has always loved sport and is a passionate West Ham supporter. In recent years he has taken up golf and attempts to play regularly.
